Oaxaca Beach Retreat,
Transformational Practices
November & February Dates TBD

During this retreat you will have time and space to reflect on your deepest needs and desires in order to come into alignment and design an updated roadmap of where you want to be in your life. Using the wisdom and symbolism of the four directions, the essence of indigenous spirituality and worldview, there will be a variety of therapeutic and spiritual offerings such as meditation, yoga, temazcal (Mexican sweat lodge,) listening circles, art making and time in nature. There will be time to relax on a beautiful, secluded beach alone or with the group, have a mayan massage, lounge in a hammock and gaze at the stars. Breakfast and dinner is included and all the food is locally sourced and vegetarian.

Temazcal

A temazcal is a type of pre-hispanic sweat lodge ceremony that is offered for a variety of purposes including physical, therapeutic and spiritual health. The structure is either a dome or a tipi shape and is meant as a representation of mother earth’s womb. The ceremony has several elements such as smudging, cleansing, honoring the four directions, intention setting, as well as a life cycle ceremony. The temazcal takes place in the dark with heat produced from the hot rocks, “las abuelas,” inside and the steam is infused with the rich smell of herbs such as rosemary, eucalyptus and basil. The view is that we enter mother earth’s womb as a way to reflect on our lives, contemplate new beginnings, take an honest look at ourselves, release that which doesn’t serve us and emerge feeling new. After the ceremony inside the temazcal there is a time to lie down and rest, drink a special tea and continue the experience. This can be a powerful time for reflection.
